Formerly known as Kleopatra, Alexis Nikki unveils a new direction in her musical journey.

Todd – So what’s up with the transition to this new name?

Alexis – Yeah so, there were a bunch of unfortunate events that happened about a year ago. Mostly revolving around the dubstep community and the people I was working with. There was a point where I was convinced that I wasn’t going to make music anymore. And then I was like that’s stupid, I’ve already come this far, maybe I’ll just switch to something new. This new music I’m writing now, I’m making songs from start to finish in like 4 hours but with dubstep it would take me 40ish hours. This new stuff is just coming out of me left and right.

T – For the Alexis Nikki project, what are some of the values that differ from the Kleopatra project?

Alexis Nikki

A – So with the Kleopatra project I was just making stuff more along the lines of what I thought other people wanted to hear. Before I even started with Kleopatra I was in a dubstep duo that never went anywhere. So I left that because I felt I could just do this on my own. But now with the new name, this is music that actually means something to me and I wanted it to actually have feeling to it you know, versus dubstep which to me was more about the party.

T – So I took a moment to listen to your new song and the lyrics are really solemn. Can you tell me more about your feelings and what you were thinking when you wrote ‘One More Time?’

A – I actually wrote that song back in August and it was right after a breakup. The song is about the feeling that you get right after you break up with someone you know. That feeling of I just want you here one more time you know I just want to hang out one more time.

T – So your future releases, are they going to have the same kind of feelings? Like lost love and hopeful for romance or would you say it would be more of a wider spectrum and have some upbeat tunes?

A – It’s definitely a wide spectrum. I have stuff that’s more bass house and I have other songs that are really pretty. It’s kind of all over the place.

T – Is this going to be exclusively a four-on-the-floor project or do you think you’ll incorporate some other genres?

A – I think maybe some Drum and Bass maybe, but for now I’m mostly focused on House.

T – What are some big goals that you have for your new brand here?

A – I would really like to start touring again and then looking at my stats on Spotify apparently all of my top listeners are in Europe. I would absolutely love to perform in Europe. I went there last year for my birthday and just fell in love.

T – What do you want people to feel when they hear your music? What kind of emotions do you want people to experience when they are going through your catalogue. I know you have just the one song out right now, but when it all comes together.

A – Well like I said before my music is in a wide spectrum. And I want to take people through a spectrum of feelings some sad and some pretty and uplifting and of course songs that are good for house parties.

T – What is it that inspired you to make music in the first place?

A – Well I grew up playing four different instruments although I only really play piano these days. I went to my first rave when I was 17. I told my parents that I was going to stay the night at my friend’s house but the thing was my friend’s parents knew where we were going but mine didn’t. So when we didn’t come home on time and then we got home and all of our parents were just sitting in the living room like ‘Where were you?’. And then I had a bunch of friends that were involved with the Safe and Sound tour and they would always invite me to that and other events that they were going to or throwing and it just hit me one day that it was what I wanted to do.

T – Okay, last question and it’s totally optional, who do you think is the most attractive DJ in the scene right now?

A – Well, I’m not going to say any names, but he’s a Drum and Bass DJ and he’s not from the US.

T – Nice, keeping it vague. Well to our readers, if you’re a Drum and Bass DJ and don’t live in the US, Alexis Nikki is available!
